This piece was inspired by a visit to Independence Square, St Kitts. Morning time here is a calm oasis within the bustling capital, Basseterre. However, this beautiful spot was once the auction site for African slaves. Their enslavement is represented by the chains, rope and a ship's anchor. The fauna of the area is intertwined with these symbols as well as West African print patterns and cash crops.
