A. Maria Raithatha

Journey to the Motherland

£285

This piece is dedicated to the Windrush generation that came searching for a better life and to help rebuild the UK. Many experienced hardship and hostility. Though some did not benefit from their sacrifices, they did pave a way for their descendants. The ship and Union Jack represents their passage. The Bible represents the impact this generation had on the churches in the UK.
I remembered my mother and grandparents reminiscing about the nature, food and the sea 'back home'. I wanted to capture this 'lost' in the images surrounding the centre.
