This pen and ink drawing was created in honour of those that left family, friends and their homeland to come to 'the Motherland'.
The cotton, tobacco flowers and sugarcane represents the cash crops that transformed the fortunes of many British plantation owners. Scottish and Irish influences are represented by the clover and thistle. The background is mixture of African print designs from Ghana, The Congo and Nigeria.
