Life Between Islands : Caribbean-British Art 1950s-Now

Until April 3, Tate Modern will be showcasing work by 40 British-Caribbean artists in company with other British artists whose work has been influenced by Caribbean culture and heritage. The exhibition celebrates the communities and identities established by people from the Caribbean in post-war Britain.

Spanning paintings, documentary photography, fashion, film and sculpture, Life Between Islands documents the remarkable impact that Caribbean culture has had on British society up until today;  featuring work by  Aubrey Williams, Donald Locke, Horace Ové, Sonia Boyce, Claudette Johnson, Peter Doig, Hurvin Anderson, Grace Wales Bonner, Alberta Whittle and many more.

Legacies: London Transport's Caribbean Workforce

In a continuation of the celebration of Caribbean peoples' contribution to British culture and life in London, the exhibition Legacies: London Transport's Caribbean Workforce is now open at the London Transport Museum in Covent Garden.

Exploring the highs and lows experienced by many of these individuals and their families following their move from the sunny Caribbean to Britain, the exhibition includes stories from first, second and third generation Caribbean people who worked for London Transport and who currently work for Transport for London.

Norwood High street Art Trail

Walk the Norwood High Street Art Trail and support the local community until April 17. In an effort to bring life once again to the long-neglected Lambeth Street, local artists and art students from the Norwood School have partnered with local retailers to connect the community.
Visitors will have the chance to be guided along the art trail and will also be given discounts and free samples by some participating retailers.

Brought to you by self-taught artist Birungi Kawooya, a Mindful African Self-portrait Workshop. Learn Birungi's unique paper cut and textile collage technique firsthand in a small intimate class of up to six individuals, and leave with your newly create framed masterpiece.

Black In South

Participate in the interactive Black In South exhibition brought to you buy Tori Taiwo. The exhibition is a visual archive of the lived experiences of Black South Londoners ,past and present, that will be added to over time to create a nuanced and true representation of what it is really like to be Black in South London. 

Taking place at the Old Savers store on Catford Highstreet, the showcase will feature works of mixed media, painting, photography and crafted pieces. 

This is a free event, however donations are welcomed.
